AFTER winning the grassroots title last week, Ateneo de Davao University added a feather on its cap by clinching the Davao Region Football Association (DRFA) High School title at the Tionko field over the weekend.
Ateneo beat University of Mindanao (UM), 2-0, behind the heroics of Naz Rafaelle Pascual who started the ball rolling with a goal in the 39th minute followed up by Jigger Nicole Martinito who scored in the 60th.
Ateneo, coached by Alex Adolfo and Ruel Sasuman, was also bannered by Enrico Luis Abear, Amir ANdrei Amaikurut, Benjamin Eulo Angala, Martin Robert Antepuesto, Raphael Cesar Balan, Nicholas Carlo Chavez, Felix Carlo Dagatan, Joshua Jericho De Luna, Kynan Andrew Dimaandal, Francis Paulo Vito Echavez, Antonio AssitidoFagel III, Ric Simon Guino-o, Jose Antonio Lopez, Enrico Miguel Magno, Leonard Navarro, Yuan Provido, Miguel Francisco Royo and Justin Luis Uy.
UM, thus, settled for the runner-up honors while Philippine College of Technology (PCT) escaped past Emar Learning Center, 7-6, via shootout to grab the third spot. The latter placed fourth instead.
Emar forced a 2-2 standoff at the end of regulation as James Paje netted a goal in the 46th. PCT took a 2-1 lead following goals from Dan Vough Enriquei and Jurgen Anzures in the second and 16th minutes, respectively.
Kenneth Galia gave Emar its first goal in the 14th.
DRFA offical Rachelle "Ching" delos Reyes, meanwhile, said the onset of heavy rains damaged some of the bleachers at Tionko field.
"Igo ra jud gipahuman ang finals sa high school, nangatuwang, nangadaut. Ambot ani murag makaya paman ayuhon budget lang kulang pero paningkamutan na maayo kay mas mahal baya magpabuhat (We were just able to finish the High School finals, the bleachers got destroyed. We'll find ways to fix it but we need budget and it's more expensive to build new ones)," she said in a Facebook chat with VoxPop Davao Monday.
The construction of bleachers, according to her, was a project of the late Davao Football Association president Edward "Chaya" Lam.
Delos Reyes added the bleachers' roofs, made of plastic, were severely damaged while the steel parts were deformed.
