THE Bacolod City Water District (Baciwa) saved its best game for last, beating Cap Boys, 100-80 on Wednesday, the last day of elimination round of Basketball Unified Sports Group at JGC gym.
Watermen Digol Benedicto, Bobot Alvarez, Tata Soliva, and Andrew Sales registered double digits for a combined 76 points negating the 60 markers scored by Johann Belandres, Dexter Olivares, Stephen Leonidas and Arturo Tomaro of Cap Boys.
In the battle for top spot, Antones Lines came from behind, 76-69, in a tough and grueling match over Judge Marketing. Garry Garcia topscored with 31 points and Babes Antones added 13 to power the Transporters which also defeated JM, 86-69 in the first round.
Edgar Basco's wards were up 56-50 in the third quarter but were outscored 26-13 at crunch time. Ariel Tornilla scattered 24 points, Stanley “Jordan” Dequit added 12, and Toto Cordero has 10 for the Merchandisers who lost Basco and Tornilla on fouls.
No. 2 Judge Marketing faces No. 3 CapBoys at 7 p.m. Friday night while No. 1 Antones Lines collides with No. 4 Baciwa at 8:30 p.m. in the semifinal with JM and AL having a twice-to-beat advantage.
Playoff is set October 5 while the championship is scheduled October 7.
It will be a battle of JM’s young Huskies, Kirk Morales, Tornilla, Tata Denosta against Cap Boys’ veterans Rex Bayer, Bert Celis, John Tumamot, Ireneo Morales, Nene Sibaya, and Toto Plagata.
Baciwa, meanwhile, has to play as a team to repulse the Transporters. (HGD)
