THE City Council of Bacolod passed a resolution requesting the Bacolod City Police Office to investigate the ambush that killed Police Officer (PO) 2 Federico Nicolas, and injured PO1 Wilmer Bansag and his minor son last August 19.
The resolution, authored by Councilor Caesar Distrito and co-authored by Councilor Dindo Ramos, also asked the police to report the investigation to the City Council.
On Saturday night, a group of unidentified persons ambushed an SUV in Barangay 16 and killed Nicolas, and wounded Bansag and his 17-year-old son.
Initial reports revealed the target was Nicolas, who was allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade.
Such incident is very alarming and a thorough investigation must be done to identify those who are involved in the crime, the resolution said.
It added: “Such investigation could also reveal whether Nicolas was indeed involved in the illegal drug trade considering of the assumption that the ambush was a result of the misunderstanding of the drug group in which Nicolas was allegedly a part of.”
That incident also happened in a thickly populated area, thus creates a dangerous precedent for the residents therein, as the perpetrators can just kill anyone at anywhere in Bacolod, the resolution further said.
