THE chairperson of the committee on transportation Tuesday, April 18, said the City Government is willing to construct a south terminal on the donated property of a realty corporation in Bacolod City.
Committee on Transportation chairperson Dindo Ramos said he talked with Mayor Evelio Leonardia last week and they discussed the total cost of road network construction’s going inside the donated lot of Yanson Realty Development Corp. (YRDC) in Barangay Tangub, this city.
In 2015, the YRDC donated its 51,406-square meter property at the Circumferential Road in the said village to be exclusively used for the construction of the south terminal.
Ramos said one of the conditions of the deed of the donation is that the City Government will construct the road network while the donor of the property will develop the terminal, including the market.
He said it is a five-hectare property and it needs a big budget.
“One of the solutions on the congestion of traffic is the construction of the south terminal like what happened in north terminal,” Ramos added.
It is expected that there will be opposition, but Ramos said it is their job to do what is right for the people of Bacolod.
“When we transferred the north terminal from Shopping Center to Barangay Bata there were opposition also, but we pushed through to address the traffic problem,” he said.
The City Council is waiting for the final decision of the mayor to start the project.
The location of the new south terminal will cover the areas of Barangays Sum-ag, Tangub, Alijis, and Punta Taytay. It aims to decongest the traffic congestion in the area of Libertad, and in Lopez Jaena Street where the current terminal is situated.
Ramos said he is now ready to propose an ordinance to transfer the south terminal to the donated property in Barangay Tangub while the eastbound will be transferred to the Barangay Mansilingan.
Leonardia had earlier proposed the transfer of the terminal of jeepneys plying the Murcia and Mambukal routes from Libertad Market to Barangay Mansilingan.
The mayor said the transfer of the terminal will bring advantage to commuters, adding that they can avoid the vehicles going east or to Libertad Market.
