THE Bacolod City Government will demolish illegal structures in various areas starting this week in preparation for the city’s hosting of the 2017 Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Summit meetings in March.
City Administrator John Orola said Monday they will demolish those along the national highways and local streets as part of the requirements of the Asean National Organizing Committee.
Those occupying the national and local roads will be affected.
The demolition team led by the City Legal Office will start the operations from Cory Road towards Bacolod-Silay Airport Road.
Orola said they will clear the roads along Circumferential Road, Lacson Street, Araneta Street towards Central Market, Gatuslao Street, and Barangay Mandalagan.
He added that some of the business owners are occupying the roads for their machine shops, vulcanizing shops, among others.
“We will not tolerate them and they should remove it now. This is not only for the Asean Summit,” Orola added.
About 160 delegates are expected to attend the two summit meetings in Bacolod on March 14 to 16, and March 21 to 24.
Orola said they will ensure that roads are free from illegal structures and they will be very serious in the implementation of city ordinances.
Last week, the Department of Public Works and Highways and Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) had started removing the illegal structures and illegal terminals along Circumferential Road.
BTAO was also tasked to clear the roads from illegal parking and remove illegal vendors at Bonifacio Street.
