BACOLOD City Councilor Sonya Verdeflor has asked the Office of the City Mayor to consider increasing the monthly assistance to the Bacolod City Police Office Women’s Desk.
Verdeflor, in a resolution she authored and passed by the Provincial Board, said the additional amount would be chargeable against the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor) Fund-Executive Share (Peace and Order) to investigations and prosecutions of pending cases filed in court.
The Office of the City Mayor allocates P5,000 month only for the Women’s Desk Investigation as among the recipients of its Pagcor Fund Executive Share.
The Women’s Desk encounters various constraints in its investigation and prosecution of increasing number of cases involving violations of Republic Act 9262 or The Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act as well as cases on human trafficking due to lack of financial assistance to pursue pending cases in court, Verdeflor said.
Considering also that it has no vehicle of its own to transport victims or complainants and their witnesses and personnel to attend hearings in court aside from the urgent need for funds to defray cost of gasoline and transportation expenses, she added.
