CRIME incidents in Bacolod City decreased by 10.83 percent since Senior Superintendent Francisco Ebreo assumed the top post in the city police force.
Ebreo’s first 100 days, from November 25, 2017, to March 4, 2018, recorded 939 crime incidents compared to the same period in the previous year with 1,053 cases.
He presented the report to the media during a press conference Friday, March 9, at the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) headquarters.
Ebreo succeeded Superintendent Roderick Minong, head of Regional Public Safety Battalion, in November last year.
For index crimes or eight focus crimes, 220 incidents were recorded this year compared to last year’s 375, with a decline of 155 or 41.33 percent.
Of the eight focus crimes, theft has the highest incidents with 99; physical injuries, 52; robbery, 37; rape, 10; motornapping, 9; murder, 8; homicide, 4; and carnapping, 1.
For non-index crimes, BCPO has recorded 719 cases with an increase of 6.05 percent from last year’s 678 cases.
Records also showed that traffic accidents increased by 1,750, or 64.81 percent, from 270 last year to 445 cases this year due to correct reporting of the cases in each police station.
Ebreo said police initiated operations this year reached 181 as compared to last year’s 103, with an increase of 78 or 75.73 percent.
The police chief said the improvement in the crime statistics is attributed to the intensified efforts of policemen to establish peace and order in the city.
On their accomplishment against illegal gambling, the BCPO has conducted 41 operations with 130 arrested persons and 38 cases filed.
On Oplan Tokhang, 128 persons were visited and 129 were revisited, with 32 street level target and four high-value target drug surrenderers. There were 129 newly-identified drug personalities.
For anti-illegal drugs campaign, 93 operations were conducted that resulted in the arrest of 165 persons and 229 cases filed. A total of 244.382 grams of “shabu” (methamphetamine hydrochloride) were seized amounting to P3,655,730.
On the campaign against illegal possession of firearms, 15 operations were conducted that led to the apprehension of 14 persons and filing of 13 cases.
Police were able to recover 16 firearms during police operations. Twelve guns were surrendered to the authorities.
