BACOLOD City Councilor Noli Villarosa, president of Liga ng mga Barangay, said he will propose to file charges against barangay officials who are involved in illegal activities, including drugs.
Villarosa on Thursday, July 20, said he will ask for a meeting with Mayor Evelio Leonardia to discuss the determining of identities of barangay captains in Bacolod involved in illegal drugs.
Last year, Villarosa said five village chiefs and 21 councilmen in the city are under investigation after they were tagged as drug protectors and users.
The names of the village chiefs and councilmen were submitted by the Liga National Executive Board, and were forwarded to the Department of the Interior and Local Government.
Villarosa said on July 11 to 13, the Liga National held a meeting in Manila and determined that 47 percent of all barangay captains in the country are involved in illegal drugs.
He added that of the 42,360 barangay captains in the country, about 20,000 are involved in illegal drugs and not doing their jobs as barangay officials.
If the barangay elections will be postponed, Villarosa said they will ask President Rodrigo Duterte to allow incumbent barangay officials a hold-over in their positions, and only those who are identified involved in illegal drugs will be removed.
