Bacolod, Negros Occidental up in Niraa medal tally

BACOLOD City and Negros Occidental still occupy the top spots in the ongoing Negros Island Region Athletic Association (2017) Meet in Dumaguete City, based on the overall medal tally as of 9 p.m. Tuesday.

The Bacolod City contingent has collected 143 golds, 87 silvers and 74 bronzes for a total of 304 medals last night in the Department of Education-sanctioned competition.

Negros Occidental trailed in the No. 2 spot with 70 golds, 79 silvers and 64 bronzes for a total of 213 medals.

In distant third is Bago City with 26 gold, 32 silver and 10 bronze medals.

Dumaguete City has 25-31-41; La Carlota City, 18-20-18; Escalante City, 10-11-13; and Cadiz City, 9-9-10.

In secondary sepak takraw, Negros Occidental ruled over Sagay City in two Regus to claim the ticket to the Palarong Pambansa.

Both, known as the seedbeds of top sepak takraw players in the region, the championship at the Villa Amada covered court was full of acrobatic spikes and solid blocks.

Negros Occidental's Regu A easily handled Sagay in first set, 21-12. The latter team tried hard in the second set again yielded, 21-16.

The Regu B was played close but Negros Occidental was just superb enough for Sagay, 21 -16 and 21 -19. (HGD)
