The Bacolod City Government is planning to build more tourism infrastructure in the coming years.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia said Monday, May 15 that they are planning to construct projects such coastal boulevard, public plaza conservation and restoration, Sum-ag river development, welcome arch, and the Bacolod nature park.
“This is broad, and an initial plan for Bacolod. We will identify the priority projects,” he said.
The mayor added that the city has already started the construction of a structure in Sum-ag River.
On Sunday, Leonardia along with City Planning and Development Office head Mary Jane Ramos, presented the proposed tourism projects during a forum of the Tourism Summit at the Capitol Social Hall.
“This plan may not all be realized, but everything starts with the dream and along the way we can always make adjustments. We will always consider circumstances realities. At least we have a direction,” Leonardia said.
Ramos, who prepared the project presentation, said these projects have an estimated budget of P100 million.
She said the city will allocate P48 million for the nature park project, P10 million for the Sum-ag River project, and P12 million for the urban food center project.
Leonardia said they are also open to a public-private partnership to implement the projects.
He said he is hopeful that the national government will fund the coastal project.
Representatives Greg Gasataya of the Lone District of Bacolod and Alfredo Benitez of the Third District had earlier introduced the bill for the construction of a coastal road from Bacolod to other cities and municipalities in northern Negros Occidental.
