BACOLODNONS took to the social media to express their condolences to the family of the late Mayor Oscar “Oca” Verdeflor who passed away at 80 due to an illness Monday.

In VoxPop Bacolod’s Facebook account alone, hundreds clicked either the like or sadness buttons of the post announcing Verdeflor’s death.

Some of his supporters paid tribute to him as they remember him for his unique brand leadership as mayor of Bacolod from July 1998 to March 2001.

Verdeflor’s remains lie in state at his family residence in Barangay Taculing. The interment will be held at Rose Lawns Memorial Park in Barangay Bata.

Councilor Caesar Distrito said on Tuesday that Mayor Evelio Leonardia offered to the Verdeflor family to hold a necrological service for the late mayor at the Bacolod Government Center to accommodate the people who will pay their last respects.

The late mayor is survived by his wife Barbara and five children, who are all abroad.

Mrs. Verdeflor said she is still waiting for the arrival of their five children to finalize the funeral arrangements.

She said they can hold a wake at the Bacolod Government Center for one day, but she will wait for the decision of their children Blush, Vivian Mae, Nathalie, Frances Franny, and Oscar Jr.

She described her husband as a good person and someone who will do whatever he wants.

The Bacolod City Council will pass a resolution on Wednesday extending their condolences to the family and relatives of the late mayor.
