APALIT -- A fast deteriorating road in the portion of MacArthur Highway here is now the subject of exasperation of motorists and commuters who traverse the thoroughfare on a daily basis.
The portion of the national road in Barangay San Vicente has been irking motorists due to huge and deep potholes in the middle of the highway.
Motorists said that the potholes cause damage to their vehicles’ wheels and chassis. The said potholes also causes traffic on the busy road as vehicles slow down upon reaching the area.
Residents around the area also disclosed how the potholes pose threats on unaware motorists who drive fast then suddenly stop upon seeing the holes.
The damaged road is considered vital for most of fourth district towns as it serves as a gateway to and from Metro Manila.
According to Mayor Peter Nucom, he already sought the attention of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-Central Luzon through an official letter sent to the office of Director Antonio Molano Jr. on July 11.
“I wish to bring to your attention to the current and re-current dilapidated state of a road portion at MacArthur Highway at Barangay San Vicente. The aforementioned road portion is perennially deteriorated, asphalt rutting and potholes form as soon as the rainy season sets in,” the letter signed by Nucom read.
Nucom, through his letter, suggested that complete removal and replacement of the existing road structure is essential to provide a long term solution to the problem.
Nucom, however, said that the DPWH-Central Luzon has not coordinated with the local government yet after more than 30 days since the letter was sent.
He said that the problem must be considered urgent as it concerns the road safety of motorists and commuters who utilize the road every day.
