KOREAN Festa alumni Loren Chloe Balaoing gets another much needed international exposure after earning a ticket in the upcoming 2017 Summer Universiade in Chinese Taipei in August.
Balaoing will be among the five archers coming from Baguio City who will represent the country in the international joust.
The University of Baguio ace archer will be joined by teammates Cynah Banasen Hidalgo, Jayson Mendoza, and Janus Ventura while Jules Ecuan from the University of the Cordilleras will also be joining the Philippine squad.
The marksmen trio was chosen to be among the Philippine contingent after topping the 1st National Students Men's Archery Championship, a qualifying tournament for the Universiade which was held recently at the Baguio Archery Range organized by the Federation of School Sports Association of the Philippines (Fessap).
Fessap is the sole university sports organization in the country that is recognized by the International University Sports Federation (FISU) as a regular voting member.
Mendoza scored 530 points on 259 in the first leg and 271 in the second leg to win the gold medal while Ecuan secured the silver with 455 points with Ventura finishing third with 427 points.
Balaoing and Dangla qualified during the 1st Asian University Archery Championship in Malaysia last April.
Considered as the second largest sporting event in the world, next to the Olympics, the Summer Universiade is a biennial multi-sporting event featuring top university athletes around the world including those from powerhouse United States, Russia, China, Germany, Japan, Great Britain, South Korea and France.
The Philippines will also compete in swimming, athletics, taekwondo, tennis, golf, badminton and table tennis, among others, in the world meet which is expected to draw more than 10,000 athletes and officials from 200 member countries.
