WITH all indications, Baguio and Benguet may finally get a chance to host the largest sporting competition in the country.
Department of Education (DepEd)– Cordillera information officer Georaloy Palao-ay after the inspection of the different sports and billeting facilities for the upcoming hosting of the Palarong Pambansa said he believes Baguio and Benguet has the edge against other bidders.
“The inspection team believes we are capable and ready to host the coolest Palaro ever,” said Palao-oy who joined a team from the DepEd Central Office including technical officials for three days to inspect the different facilities eyed to host the different venues for the Palaro next year.
Palao-ay relates the inspecting team were elated over the high standard of the playing venues to be used once Baguio and Benguet earns the nod to host the weeklong sports event for elementary and high school students.
“The inspecting team said our facilities are of international standards so we are optimistic we will be able to snatch the Palaro hosting,” added Palao-ay.
Palao-ay said the inspection will give added boost to Baguio and Benguet’s hosting after Presidential Communications Operation Office Secretary Martin Andanar committed to local officials his support.
Andanar, who was in the city over the weekend said he fully supports the planned participation of Baguio and Benguet in the upcoming bidding of the hosting of next year’s Palarong Pambansa because the sports facilities in the two contiguous areas are almost complete enough to accommodating the simultaneous conduct of numerous sports events.
The PCOO chief underscored Baguio and Benguet enjoy a distinct advantage because of its cool weather condition conducive to the continuous conduct of games even at the height of summer that will allow the timely completion of the scheduled games during the week-long sports competition.
