BAGUIO City is pushing for a stricter implementation of anti-mendicancy and anti-peddling law this summer and holy week.
Rhey Delmendo of the Public Order and Safety Division (POSD) said since the stricter implementation of the anti peddling and mendicancy law, illegal vendors and mendicants in the city have decreased in 2016 compared to the previous years.
In the recent data of POSD, they caught less than 1,000 peddlers within the city which is far low with their 11,000 target.
“Aware naman na yung mga peddlers na kapag nakakakita sila ng POSD yung iba ay nagtatago, nagtatakbuhan (The peddlers are aware that when they see a member of POSD, some of them hide and others run),” Delmendo said.
Delmendo said most peddlers and mendicants are commonly seen along Burnham Park, Botanical Garden, Wright Park, Mines View, and Cathedral during the months of November, December and summer which are considered to be peak seasons.
Delmendo added POSD is strengthening its program through a joint effort with Department of Social Welfare and Development to cater and regulate the mendicants and peddlers. (Myche Ryle Mejia, UB-Intern)
