IN A bid to rid graffiti vandalism in the Baguio City, the Anti-Graffiti Task Force (AGTP) and City Council is set to impose stiffer penalties.
Mayor Mauricio Domogan during his weekly Ugnayang Panlungsod said the city is set to re-launch the anti graffiti campaign by the end of the month.
Domogan added the task force is set to intensify its anti–graffiti efforts and arrest individuals and groups involved in dirtying the city.
The mayor added village officials must also step up efforts against anti-graffiti.
Persons who are engaged and found violating the law will be fined P1,000 or imprisonment of one to 10 days.
The Anti-Graffiti Code of Baguio City defines graffiti (graffiti vandalism) as “any unauthorized inscription, word, figure, painting or defacement is written, marked, etched, scratched, sprayed, drawn, painted or engraved on or otherwise affixed, to the extent that the graffiti was not authorized in advance by the owner or occupant of the property, or despite advance authorization, is otherwise deemed a public nuisance.
All types of unauthorized markings, under the code are classified as vandalism and public nuisance.
A property owner, however, is not absolutely prohibited from authorizing graffiti-type artwork for decorative purposes.
Domogan acknowledged graffiti is one of the major concerns in the city which extremely affects environment and the cleanliness campaign particularly in public places and the different barangays around the city.
Boysen is set to donate paints to remove graffiti in affected areas.
