BAGUIO City celebrates the World Music Day or “Fete de la Musique” with local and international performances slated at 4 p.m., Saturday, June 24, at the People’s Park.
Initiated by the French Embassy to the Philippines and the Alliance Francaise de Manille and co-sponsored by the City of Baguio through the Office for City Administration and City Tourism and Special Events Office and the Department of Tourism, the event will be open and free of charge to the public.
The show will feature performances by local artists Skydive Academy, Cesar Salcedo and the Brews Brothers, Chaotic Terrain, Junger Srike and Maicah X Goose X Yuri and international performers Tarsius, Chilletees and Bras Pas Pas Pas Pas Pas featuring Kat Agarrado.
Mayor Mauricio Domogan and Councilor Elmer Datuin, chair of the city council committee on tourism will open the program.
The City Council earlier declared June 21 every year as World Music Day in the city through Resolution 177.
Datuin said the celebration aims to promote music by encouraging amateur and professional musicians to perform in the streets under the slogan “Faitas de la Musique” or make music and by making music accessible to the public through the conduct of free concerts which cut across the diverse genres of music.
At present, the World Music Day is celebrated in more than 700 cities in 120 countries.
In the Philippines, the day is celebrated in key cities including the City of Baguio. (PR)
