BAGUIO wrestlers dominated their respective weight class winning three golds, three silver, and three more bronze medals in the Pre-Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games played at Harrison Plaza, Friday.
Henry Foy-os led the charge for the highland grapplers taking home the gold in the 66 (kilogram) kg juniors division while Meg Griffith Guinyawan took home the 52 kg and Emily Lopez in the 56 kg freestyle cadets girls.
Foy-os also settled for silver in the 68 kg after he was edged by Manila’s Maxwell Francisco who capitalized on his solid clinch fighting forms and strength. Also settling for silver are Anthonie John Tenullar (66 kg junior freestyle) and Michael Fangki (70 kg freestyle).
Bronze medalist include Ismael Bandiwan (61 kg), Ryan Carranza (59 kg) and David Caoili (55 kg).
Wrestlers from the Armed Forces of the Philippines also ruled their respective categories with Airman Richard Agosto bagging the gold in the premiere men’s 100 kg, beating Robertson Torres of Zamboanga, who settled for the silver while armyman Ismael Trazona took the bronze.
Navymen Runieth Decano demonstrated impressive grappling and joint locks to win the 75 kg match by subduing Joseph Lawrence Flores of Yawyan club, who took the silver.
Armyman Michael Cater took the gold in the 57 kg tussle. Cater gained control right from the start to win via submission against Marlo Onrubia (Zamboanga).
The qualifying tournament aims to identify the athletes who will join Team Philippines in the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, to be held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan on September 17-27. Roderick Osis
