STUDENTS of Negros Occidental High School (NOHS) received an early Christmas present that had them laughing out loud through a presentation of production value, entertainment and mimicry from who else, but their teachers!
The iconic and century old NOHS main building was once again witness to a feat that proved "teachers are the greatest artists in the world."
Without a hint of hesitation, teachers came out in full drags as fashion, music and entertainment icons in the second staging of the inter-department character impersonation contest presented by the English Department headed by Milagros Abanales.
In the past, I had been a "permanent figure" in their office, either sharing lunch or more often, killing time. That is why, it was such a great opportunity to rekindle those old happy memories through observing them run the show. This time, though, I earned myself a front seat ticket as judge in a hilarious, mostly over the top renditions of music legends.
It was a visual treat for students and teachers alike to see monster hits coming from Cher, The Queen, Spice Girls, Yoyoy Villame, Katy Perry, Jennifer Hudson, Yeng Constantino, among others.
Students were definitely inspired to perform well by the kind of dedication their teachers put in the spirit of Christmas. All performers didn't disappoint as even the most minute details were given attention, much more on getting the right outfit, hair and makeup, and yes, getting the lyrics correctly.
Taking home the bragging rights were the Brit Queens and Billboard hit makers, the Spice Girls, as impersonated by the teachers from the Senior High Department.
To my amazement, my former high school classmate Rhea Uy, who is now a noble teacher, gave a flawless rendition as one of the girl group members.
These girls surely know how to make a grand entrance after kicking off their presentation aboard motor bikes, all them signaling "the party is here and we are starting it really loud!"
On the other side, I am right across the iconic Petronas Twin Towers of Malaysia writing this post Christmas write-up. I am quipping of the good times, like the NOHS teachers contest, among other great things this past year.
After all, in the understanding of the little things that make us smile and happy is the start of a life of significance.
This season, may you be reminded of the little precious experiences that matter most that you shared with your friends, family members, fellow workers and yes, great teachers.
