THE Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) on Thursday filed criminal complaints with the Department of Justice (DOJ) against corporate officers of two companies in Makati City for tax evasion.
Charged for violating Section 255 in relation to Sections 253 (d) and 256 of the Tax Code were Aeroflite Aviation Corporation (Aeroflite), its president Arnel Miguel and treasurer Jerome John Valera.
At a press conference, BIR Assistant Commissioner James Roldan said Aeroflite, a business engaged in private flying, will need to pay its tax liabilities amounting to P3.15 million.
Also charged for the same violation are corporate officers of restaurant Chow Master Corporation (Chow Master) Chairman/CEO Rebecca Ann Sy, its treasurer Jojo Candelario and its chief financial officer Alice Yap.
The corporate officers were assessed with deficiency tax liabilities in the sum of P14.90 million.
Roldan said the continued refusal of the officers of both companies to pay their long overdue deficiency taxes, despite repeated demands, constitute willful failure to pay taxes due to the government.
The case against the two corporations and their officers are the 7th and 8th case filed under the "Run Against Tax Evaders" program of the BIR under Commissioner Caesar Dulay. (VoxPop Philippines)
