SENIOR Superintendent Alberto Balauag, officer-in-charge of Bureau of Jail Management and Penology-Negros Island Region (BJMP-NIR), directed jail wardens and other personnel on Wednesday, June 7, to review security measures inside the jail.
This came after the escape of three inmates from the Metro Bacolod District Jail-Special Intensive Care Area (MBDJ-Sica) at Barangay Taculing, Bacolod City last Sunday, June 4.
Balauag, an Ilocano and a member of the Philippine National Police Academy Class 1989, assumed the post of Senior Superintendent Hernan Grande on June 6. Grande was moved to the national headquarters.
Superintendent Amelito Fuentes, deputy regional director for administration of BJMP-NIR, said Wednesday that Balauag, in a meeting held on the same day, told jail wardens to identify the weakest points and to check the use of jail aides to avoid the recurrence of the incident.
Last June 4, Marlon Molina, 38, of Murcia town, and Ebson Jaen, 36, and Noli Dega, 39, both residents of Bacolod City, escaped from the jail by climbing the perimeter fence.
Jaen was recaptured when he got injured.
Two days after the incident, Chief Inspector Jonairy Sitchon and two jail guards were relieved from MBDJ-Sica while the BJMP-NIR conducts an investigation.
Superintendent Larry Fuentes, deputy regional director for operations of BJMP-NIR, replaced Sitchon as officer-in-charge while the latter was moved to the regional office.
The two others were also transferred to the regional office while the other one was assigned in Talisay City.
