(UPDATED) AN IMPROVISED bomb ripped through the rooftop of an abandoned building at the Edibora Yap Memorial Hospital in Lamitan City, Basilan, shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday night, police said Friday, February 3.
Chief Inspector Allan Benasing, Lamitan City police station chief, said a portion of the building sustained damage due to an explosion from an improvised explosive device fashioned from an MK2 fragmentation.
Benasing said the blast happened during a power interruption in the area.
Lamitan District Hospital Administrator John Bravo said the building where the bomb exploded was unoccupied.
He said they have not received any threat prior to the incident.
Benasing said the suspects behind the attack were allegedly members of the Abu Sayyaf Group led by sub-leader Nurhassan Jamiri.
Benasing said a hot pursuit operations are now being conducted against the suspects.
