AN ART installation dubbed “Boats of Dreams” was unveiled at the lobby of the Bacolod Government Center (BGC) Wednesday as part of the activities of the 37th MassKara Festival set October 1 to 23.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia himself wrote his dreams for Bacolod.
“On these boats will sail the dreams of our people. Let us write our dreams on these boats and together, let us see them come true,” Leonardia said.
He invited Bacolodnons to see the six boats that will be displayed at the BGC lobby until October 7.
Leonardia wrote on one of the boats that his dream for Bacolod is for the city to “(become) a most competitive and livable city that will serve as leader and model for the rest of the country in our collective march to peace, progress and prosperity.”
MassKara Festival director Eli Francis Tajanlangit said his dream is for Bacolod to “become a major Asian City.”
“On these boats we hope that people will write their dreams for Bacolod so that like the way it was when we were children, we will let them sail in the fountain area and let us watch them come true,” he added.
The installation is composed of replicas of paper boats which will be installed, along with other art figures, at the fountain area of Bacolod Government Center on October 7.
Called “Charlie Co’s A Golden Age of Change,” it will be the major art centerpiece for the 2016 MassKara Festival and will be unveiled on October 8, 6 p.m.
Co said his art figures include a galloping horse carrying a flag, representing positivity and love of country, several clocks, representing the golden time now and the paperboats, representing the Bacolodnons' hopes and dreams as a people.
The presentation of the “A Golden of Change” is Co’s collaboration with fellow artist Neil Buenavente.
“I call this public art. My joy is to see our people, especially the young, smile when they see these artworks. There’s a collaboration, the people write on the boats and these become our dreams,” Co added. (MAP with reports from PNA)
