THE fate of the single mother who was arrested after cracking a bomb joke inside a mall on Fuente Osmeña will rest on the hands of the fiscal, as the management is reportedly no longer interested to file a complaint against her.
SPO4 Rene Cerna of the Cebu City Public Safety Company (CCPSC) said that the mall’s security agency turned over Jasmin Sala, 37, to their unit only for profiling.
“We’ll file her case at the Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office and it will depend on the fiscal if she will be punished or her case will be dismissed,” Cerna said in Cebuano. “Nag-estorya mi sa security agency pero dili sila interested ba (We already talked with the security agency but it seems like they’re not interested).”
He said that the agency only wanted to know the background of Sala, especially if she has records involving rebel activities, which turned out to have none.
Cerna, however, is encouraging the mall management to file a complaint against Sala for violation of Presidential Decree 1727, which penalizes the “malicious dissemination of false information” or “any threat concerning bombs, explosives and any similar device.”
The country has been placed under a full alert status after the recent bomb explosion in Davao that killed 14 people and injured more than 60 others.
Sala, who joked about a bomb placed inside her bag, was invited for questioning by the security of the local mall and was later turned over to the CCPSC.
Meanwhile, Sala’s parents were shocked upon the arrest of their daughter because she is known to be a quiet person in their household.
They said that they did not expect their daughter to crack such a joke, which is a serious matter.
Sala was expected to leave for Japan having already paid P100,000 placement fee for a work there. But her dreams were stopped short when she made a bomb joke after the guard inspected her bag last Friday.
Sala has two children, a two-year-old girl and a 12-year-old boy. She was employed as a production worker in a local industrial estate before the incident.
