POLICE have foiled a bombing attempt as they safely recovered and detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) in Isabela City, Basilan, a police official said Friday, October 28.
Isabela City Police Chief Jerome Afuyog said the IED was discovered around 7 a.m., Friday, near the gate of Basilan District Engineer Soler Undug’s compound at Purok Yakal, Calle Posporo, in the village of San Rafael in Isabela City.
Afuyog said the IED was discovered by a resident who immediately reported to the authorities.
The joint Army and Special Action Force (SAF) Explosive Ordnance Demolition (EOD) personnel safely detonated the IED, which is a cellular phone triggered bomb placed in a plastic bag.
Initial investigation showed the IED was left by unidentified persons aboard a motorcycle that passed by soler’s compound.
Investigation continues to determine the motive as well as the people behind the bombing attempt.
