DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio joined around 1,200 street sweepers, garbage collectors, and gardeners under the City Environment and Natural Resources Office on February 28 in a boodle fight sponsored by Pilipinong May Puso Foundation.
The boodle fight was done to give thanks for the cleaners' participation in the Davao Regional Athletic Association Meet held last February 18-23.
Duterte-Carpio said thanksgiving is but fitting since these City Hall employees helped to ensure the comfort of the visitors during the meet.
"Dili mahimong malipayon ang atong mga bisita kung dili tungod sa inyong hard work (Our visitors will not be happy if not for your hard work)," she said.
Duterte-Carpio said Wednesday's boodle fight is just the first leg of the thanksgiving since Pilipinong May Puso Foundation will also sponsor boodle fights for the traffic personnel, Civil Security Units (CSU), Central 911, Task Force Davao, and Davao City Police Office (DCPO).
The mayor admitted that the City does not have a budget for such gatherings and is thus very grateful that the foundation initiated it.
Duterte-Carpio also reminded the workers of the great workload ahead in the month of March, which marks the start of Araw ng Dabaw celebration and the Alveo Ironman 70.3 triathlon.
Araw ng Dabaw is set to kick off Thursday, March 1, while the Ironman 70.3 will be on March 25.
