CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The Bureau of Treasury, together with its partners from the private sector, launched the 20th tranche of the Retail Treasury Bonds (RTBs) on Tuesday, November 21, at the Kingsborough Convention Center.

With theme “Magregalo ng Magandang Kinabukasan, RTBs para sa Maligayang Pasko,” the launching is perfect for individuals who wanted to give a “a secured and growing” gift to family members and friends in time for the holiday season.

The RTBs form a part of the government’s savings mobilization program designed to make government securities available to retail investors. It has maturity of five years and its interest is paid quarterly, different from the regular Treasury Bonds which are paid semi-annually, explained BOTr Director Doms Mariano.

Mariano stressed that the opening of RTBs to the public aims to develop local capital market by expanding investor base of government securities while demonstrating prudence and commitment to diverse fund raising programs.

Compared to other treasury bonds, RTBs are identified low-risk investment as they are considered direct, unconditional and general obligations of the Republic of the Philippines, Mariano said.

He added that RTBs are very affordable as they are available for as low as P5,000 but can be considered high-yielding investments since it offers quarterly interest income than other financial instruments.

For interested individuals and corporations, Mariano said that RTB’s 20th tranche is currently made available to the public from November 20 to 29 and investment will be due on 2022. Investors may purchase the RTBs from any selling agents subject to the documentary and minimum deposit requirements.

After the public offer period, investors can buy the RTBs from secondary market at prevailing market prices and if investors have to sell it prior to maturity, they may also do so through selling agents but are subject to prevailing market prices, Mariano explained.
