THE Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR)- Revenue Region No. 16 has officially started their tax mapping campaign in all establishments in Cagayan de Oro City and Misamis Oriental as it plans to surpass its P4.5 billion collection from its mapping campaign last year.
Venerando Homez, Chief Revenue Officer III said this year, its office targets 5,500 establishments to be included in the tax mapping campaign which will run for the whole year.
Homez said, they have monitored several violations in some establishments and stores in Limketkai area alone, during their operation Wednesday, March 1.
"Ang tax mapping has 3 parts, atong icheck kung registered ba ang isa ka establishment, and icheck pud namo kung gabayad ba sila ug annual registration fee worth P500, (We will check if the establishment is registered, and also check if they pay the annual registration fee worth P500)," he said.
"Second is invoicing, atong icheck kung ga-issue ba sila ug resibo, ug kini nga resibo registered ba sa BIR, and lastly is to check the establishment's bookkeeping registration, and kung naa bay sulod ang libro, (We will check if they issue receipts and if these receipts are registered, also inspect if the establishment maintains bookkeeping)," Homez said.
The minimum penalty for each violation is at P1,000 while the maximum penalty is the closure of the establishment. For example, if a store fails to issue receipts, the first offense is placed at P20, 000, second offense is worth P40,000, and third offense cost the operation of one's store.
Homez said business establishments found violating the Revenue Code of the Philippines will be issued a notice with the corresponding violations listed.
The erring owners of business establishments will be given at least five days to settle their violations.
Misamis Oriental Governor Yevgeny Vincente Emano, who was present at the kickoff of the intensified campaign on Tuesday, expressed support to the BIR's tax collection efforts.
"The tax would mean a lot for the development of the province. As collection grows, more projects will be poured in for the benefit of our constituents, especially in infrastructure and social services," he said.
Emano callled on taxpayers and owners of establishments to religiously return what is due to the government. He also vowed to help implement the bureau's tax collection programs.
