(Updated) -- An unidentified burglar carted cash worth P47,000 inside the treasurer's office of Madridejos, Bantayan Island, northern Cebu, on Monday, July 3.
Municipal Treasurer Jose Rio discovered the burglary around 8 a.m. on Monday. The cash served as public funds of the municipality.
Police believed the culprit may have barged into the office over the weekend.
Investigation showed that the culprit entered the treasurer's office by destroying the doorknob using a hard object and forced the drawer open. The cash was taken from the vault,which was not locked, inside the drawer.
The culprit tried to open the vault of Municipal Disbursing Officer Noelito Braga Almodiel, but failed to put the correct number combination.
The culprit went to the separate office of Rio by opening the sliding window. (VoxPop Cebu)
