SOME 49 slaughtered dogs were confiscated Friday morning, June 16, after it was intercepted in a police checkpoint along Longlong, Puguis, La Trinidad, Benguet.
Police arrested Elvis Salagan Darisan, 30, a resident of Imus, Cavite, with his companion identified as Ray Medina Malecdan, 44, a resident of Balsigan, Baguio City, who were transporting the butchered dogs in a pick-up truck with plate number WCR 994.
The suspects together with the recovered items were brought to the town’s police station for documentation and cases of violating RA 8485, also known as the Animal Welfare Act are being prepared for filing at the Prosecutor’s Office.
In April this year, authorities also intercepted a truck containing 63 butchered dogs in Barangay Wangal on its way to deliver the illegal meat to restaurants.
The dogs were supposed to be delivered to some restaurants in Baguio City and La Trinidad, where dog meat is known to be a delicacy.
Authorities said the truck belonged to a clothing retail store “Francis 88 Fashion Collection” based in Cavite.
The same truck was captured in Tagaytay City in November of last year.
