CADIZ Sluggers and Hacienda Gaston ruled over their respective opponents in the cross-over semifinals over the weekend to arrange a titular match up on June 10 for the 1st Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. Inter-Hacienda Softball at Lourdes Ballpark in Manapla, Negros Occidental.
Bracket A’s top squad Gaston survived Bracket B’s No. 2 Cadiz Burgos, 7-8 while Bracket A’s No. 2 Cadiz Sluggers outplayed Bracket B's top team Dos Hermanos, 8-1.
On Saturday, June 3, Cadiz Burgos and Dos Hermanos will meet for the “battle for third” followed by the championship match and awarding ceremony.
Manapla Mayor Lourdes Escalante reiterated that this softball tournament intends to help fight drugs through the massive promotion of sports in the grassroots.
She added that the event has brought in great opportunities for the Manaplahanons who love the sport so much.
Provincial Sports Coordinator Angel Verdeflor said the event is a justification of how the governor supports the sports development program in the province.
The champion team will get P10,000; first runner-up, P7,000; and the second runner-up, P5,000. Losing teams will get P2,000 each. (HGD)
