Cagayan de Oro lawyer to push for dismissal of 2 cops

LAWYER Ernie Palanan said he will write to the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) to implement the Ombudsman’s dismissal order for Superintendent Michael John Deloso and Police Officer 3 Ernesto Galleto.

Palanan said he will write the officials of the two agencies on Wednesday, May 10, to serve the order of the Ombudsman, once the two Cagayan de Oro police officers fail to secure a restraining order within five days.

“Friday nako nadawat ang kopya (dismissal order) so, ang akong presumption nadawat napud nila kay pareha raman na nga mailing by Wednesday magsulat nako (I will receive the copy on Friday, May 12, so I presume the same day they will also receive theirs. By Wednesday, I will write),” Palanan said.

The Ombudsman ordered the dismissal from service of the two policemen for grave misconduct and violation of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act or Republic Act 3019 in connection with the alleged extortion against a transport association.

Palanan said he will also furnish the PNP national headquarters in Camp Crame with a copy of the letter.

Palanan added it is high time now for the PNP to prove the “change” they are claiming by putting an end to the impunity within the organization.

He said law enforcers should maintain their loyalty to the people to regain back the people’s trust and confidence.

Palanan, the former president of the Xavier Heights-route drivers and operators association, urged other transport organizations to ensure legitimate operations.

Palanan said compliance with laws and observing the rules and policies are the best way to parry extortion and other illegal activities from authorities.

He also urged other transport associations to report law enforcers, who abused their authority to intimidate groups or individuals.

“Kung makita nato nga naay mga illegal activities ang mga police i-reklamo nato kay makita man nga mo-aksyon ang Ombudsman. Ato lang siguroon nga lehitimo atong operation sa atong mga sakyanan (If we see any abusive police, report it since the Ombudsman will surely act upon it. Let’s just make sure our operations are legitimate),” Palanan said.
