THE Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) has ordered the relief of Chief Inspector Gilbert Rollen, the commander of Police Station 2 in Cogon, effective Thursday, March 9.
Rollen was replaced by Chief Inspector Mohammed Taufh Shalim Abdulhalim as station commander officer-in-charge.
Cocpo spokesperson Chief Inspector Mardy Hortillosa II said Rollen will report to the City Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit (CPHAU) while waiting for his new assignment.
Hortillosa said the order has clearance and approval from the Police Regional Office (PRO)-Northern Mindanao which conducted the validation and performance evaluation.
PRO-Northern Mindanao spokesperson Superintendent Lemuel Gonda said Abdulhalim is from the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).
The City Council committee on police has earlier recommended for the relief of Rollen following the February 19 shootout that left a store manager and two of the gunmen dead.
Committee chairman Councilor Romeo Calizo said they want the police station chief replaced for failing to provide efficient police visibility and good intelligence in the area.
"Before and after sa hitabo walay makita nga klarong police visibility and the absence of good intelligence on the part of the station," Calizo said.
"I don't take it against sa station commander pero dili ta ganahan nga maghulat og another similar incident para mag-recommend further," Calizo added.
But, Hortillosa said the relief order does not include reasons and is perhaps part of the normal movement of the police organization.
Meanwhile, Senior Inspector Maricris Mulat was supposed to be relieved from her post as Police Station 1 chief last Wednesday, March 8 but the order was nullified.
Gonda said he could not explain the reasons of the supposed relief and the nullification of the order since it is not stated in the directive.
"Sa order wala ginabutang ang reasons kay kung naa man gud order ang police igo ra mosunod," Gonda said.
"Naay rumor nga ma-relieve si Mulat tungod sa drug operation pero nauna ang pagbuhat sa order before sa operation,"Gonda added.
The police station 1 launched a drug bust in Villa Angela Subdivision, Balulang this city on March 8, and seized some P2.3 million worth of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu and arrested the suspect identified as Sobair Mimbaliwag.
Hortillosa said Mulat remains the chief of police station 1 in Divisoria.
