CALABARZON Region bested three other regions to win the inaugural Inter-Region Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Ladies Basketball Friendship Games in Tuba, Benguet.
The first ladies inter–region basketball friendly game saw more than 78 participants coming from the over-all champion Calabarzon Region, first runner–up Ilocos Region and second runner-up Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).
“It is how you play the game that matter most,” according to BFP–CAR regional director Maria Mendoza, stressing the importance of friendly competition and expressed her gratitude to participants in the friendship games.
The two-day friendly was an initiative by the three BFP regional directors, senior superintendents Sergio Soriano Jr. of Calabarzon, Lilibeth Simangan of Ilocos and Mendoza of CAR.
BFP-CAR coach Senior Inspector Victor Sayapen said this is the first time that BFP have done the inter-region ladies basketball game
“It’s our first time to play against Regions 1 (Ilocos) and 4A (Calabarzon), although we lack the experience and size, our team’s spirit is whole and un-shattered so we enjoyed the whole experience,” added Sayapen.
The games tested the stamina, strength, endurance and sportsmanship of the female fire fighters awed the three regional directors for their dedication and effort towards the whole activity with high-fives, encouragements and good sportsmanship displayed all throughout the games.
BFP is also planning to follow the inter region ladies competition and shift to volleyball, with Calabarzon being wooed to host next years’ friendship games which is slated around second quarter of next year. (University of the Cordilleras Intern Shaura Elaine Cuyan)
