SOLICITOR General Jose Calida believes that the impeachment complaint against President Rodrigo Duterte will not prosper.
"They must be dreaming...They are not even in the league of Don Quixote. Impeachment won't fly. It will crash like a rudderless plane flown by witless pilots," Calida said in a text message on Thursday.
Magdalo Representative Gary Alejano earlier in the day lodged at the House of Representatives an impeachment complaint against the President for "culpable violation of the Constitution, engaging in bribery, betrayal of public trust, graft and corruption."
This is the first impeachment case filed a against the President.
This, however, was not the first legal complaint Duterte has faced.
Just last November, Senator Leila De Lima filed a writ of habeas data petition with the Supreme Court (SC) seeking to bar the President and his alleged cohorts from obtaining personal information about her private life.
The SC has yet to rule on the petition of the now detained Senator.
The impeachment case will have to pass first the House of Representatives before it goes up to the Senate.
The President has produced strong allies in the lower house, evident in the recent voting on the death penalty bill where 217 out of the 272 solons voted in the affirmative to revive capital punishment, one Dutere's priority measures. (VoxPop Philippines)
