THE Provincial Government of Misamis Oriental began installing Ultra Vision-Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras inside the province's jail facility.
With three CCTVs already installed in strategic areas, Jail Warden Dominador Tagarda said the Misamis Oriental Provincial Jail (MOPJ) custodial force will now be able to monitor activities inside and outside the facility.
"It is a big help to monitor activities of the inmates inside the jail facility, including the activities of the jail guards and the people passing by outside the compound," Tagarda said.
Governor Yevgeny Emano vowed to mount nine more CCTV cameras starting this year until 2017.
Tagarda said the CCTV cameras will also as it will help deter the smuggling of contraband such as illegal drugs inside the jail.
It can be recalled that several contrabands like methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as "shabu," and other drug paraphernalia were confiscated in the series of raids in the previous months.
On August 28, an inmate identified as Jomar Itong, held a fellow inmate hostage.
Itong was killed by authorities after the former refused to yield in the nearly four hours of negotiation. (AS)
