THE Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) will go after lewd shows that will be presented in tourist spots, including Bantayan Island, during the Holy Week.
Senior Superintendent Edgar Alan Okubo, CPPO director, said on Wednesday, March 14, that they are mandated to implement local ordinances that ban inappropriate presentations by entertainment organizers during Lent.
"If they violate the municipal ordinance, it's the law. It should be imposed by the local police," he said.
The Women Development Code of Cebu Province, authored by Vice Governor Agnes Magpale when she was still a board member, prohibits shows that "tend to commodify, abuse, humiliate and treat women as sex objects."
In 2009, during the term of then governor Gwen Garcia, the Cebu Provincial Government filed charges against sexy actresses Maui Taylor and Jennifer Lee and actor Paolo Paraiso for their show in a beach resort in Santa Fe, Bantayan Island. The organizers were also named respondents.
The complaints, however, were dropped after the respondents asked forgiveness.
Okubo said they will possibly tap Cebu City Police Office's Theft and Robbery Section to help CPPO identify city-based thieves, who might flock to Bantayan Island and other towns where tourists are expected to converge. (KAL/VoxPop Cebu)
