THE Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco) is eyeing a power supply agreement with Panay Electric Development Corp. (PEDC) once its 64-megawatt base load contract with Kepco-Salcon Power Corp. expires in 2021.
Ceneco Board President Arnel Lapore said Wednesday, November 23, PEDC is just one of the power suppliers that offered them a base load contract.
Everything will go through a procedure especially the bidding process, he added.
Lapore noted the five electric cooperatives in Negros Island Region have forged an agreement that they will aggregate their power requirements through a competitive process and they will strategize to get lower priced power from different suppliers.
At present, Ceneco sources power supply from Kepco SPC (coal) and Energy Development Corp. (geothermal) for the base load and from Energreen Power Corp. (diesel) for the peak load.
Lapore, who attended the inauguration of PEDC’s 150-megawatt coal-fired power plant expansion project in Iloilo City yesterday, said the new plant will surely benefit Ceneco consumers in terms of line rentals.
“Now that we have additional supply from Iloilo, the impact of line rentals will be minimized,” he added.
