DEFENDING champions Ceres-La Salle FC returned to the Rizal Memorial Stadium on Wednesday with a fierce demolition of Forza FC, 10-nil to regain its second spot in the table of the United Football League.
Irish midfielder Orman Okunaiya opened Ceres FC’s scoring spree with a goal inside the box in the fifth minute. Stephan Schrock had a chance to double their score but his free kick went straight to the wall.
Schrock’s offensive mindset paid off with a solid strike in the 26th minute to put Ceres FC up by two goals. He added another in the 42nd minute off a pass from Okunaiya.
Just before half-time, Manny Ott evaded the defense and Ceres was up by four goals.
Defender Jason Sabio opened Ceres’s aggressive attack in the second half with a header in the 52nd minute off a corner kick by Schrock. Ceres FC now up, 5-0.
Eight minutes later, Jeffrey Christiaens extended the lead to 6-nil as Okunaiya found the back of the net with a finish from beyond the box in the 63rd minute for a 7-0 advantage.
Kevin Ingresso puts his name on the score sheet with a strike from long distance in the 66th minute to further widen Ceres FC’s lead to 8-nil.
Christiaens earned his second goal on a tight finish from the right flank to extend Ceres FC lead to 9-0 as Ingresso added another two minutes. Marwin Angeles converted from deep to seal the win.
Ceres dominated the entire match, having a 78-22 percent ball possession and 25 attempts on target.
UFL Cup champion Global FC remained on top of the team standing with undefeated record of 12 wins and pair of draws for 38 points in 14 games.(HGD)
