CERES Negros FC repeated over Ilocos United FC, 5-nil on Saturday evening, September 30, at Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City, and moved up to third spot of the Philippines Football League (PFL).
“Man of the Match” Stephan Schrock is finally back with two spectacular goals to lead the Busmen in a dominating performance before 3,000 plus fans.
Bienvenido Marañon, Fernando Rodriguez, and Carli de Murga scored each within the first 30 minutes of play to excite the home crowd.
In the post-match press conference, Ceres coach Risto Vidakovic said the players deserve to win this league as they worked hard for it.
“It’s not easy for these players who have been away from their homes and families for a long time especially this year because we have so many games in the AFC and the PFL. I’m proud to be the coach of this team,” he said. “The four wins and a draw this September was excellent.”
Schrock said that despite the absence of some players due to injuries and national duty with the Azkals, the team still played well.
“It’s not that difficult with the players we have. Everybody knows what to do and how to play. In every game, you can see our style, what we want, and how we get it. And, that’s important for us,” he said.
“Our coach did very well and it’s a blessing for Philippine football,” he added.
Ilocos United coach Ian Gillan said they just experienced playing the best team in the PFL.
“Let’s be honest, Ceres is by far the best team in the competition, in my opinion. They are one of the strongest teams in Southeast Asia. They have quality players and play good football. We are not that fortunate to have such talents,” he said.
The Scottish mentor also expected to concede more goals last Saturday, September 30.
“As I’ve said, Ceres is the best team. The last time we played against them, we conceded more goals (7-0). This latest result is good for us,” said Gillan.
While he is unhappy with the 5-0 loss, the scoreline shows little improvement from the last outcome.
“It only shows that our club is on the right track. We need better and quality players if we want to be on the top end of PFL,” he said.
Ceres FC will next face Kaya FC Makati on October 14 then JPV FC Marikina on October 18 here at home.
