Ceres FC beats Kaya FC; Meralco fortifies PFL lead

CERES Negros Football Club (FC) continued their high-level performance over the weekend with a 3-2 victory over Kaya FC-Makati in the ongoing Philippines Football League (PFL) at the University of Makati pitch.

With some of the Ceres FC players out of the starting 11, Omid Nazari sparked to open the Negrense side’s first goal in the 19th minute for a 1-0 edge at the break.

In the second half, another surprise starter Arnie Pasinabo Jr., doubled the provincial club’s lead in the 50th minute before Robert Mendy quickly brought back the lead to a goal on the 51st.

Bienvenido Marañon found the goal wide in the 63rd for a 3-1 advantage, but Jordan Mintah cut the lead anew to a goal with 3-2 scoreline in the 90+2’.

With the win, Ceres FC improved its record to eight wins, a draw, and pair of defeats in 11 outings fortifying its No. 4 position in the table with 25 points. Kaya FC kept hold at No. 3 with eight wins, three draws, and five losses in 16 games.

In the other match, FC Meralco Manila extended its winning record to 10 wins, three draws, and two defeats with the 3-2 triumph over Stallion Laguna FC.

Connor Tacagni had two goals for Meralco as Tyler Matas connected another. Ko Kyungjoon and Fitch Arboleda scored one each for the Stallion. (HGD)
