CERES Negros Football Club (FC) more than made up for its 1-2 away loss and 2-all home draw against nemesis JPV Marikina FC by hacking out a 5-0 revenge on Saturday, October 28, at Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City.
The Busmen were coming from a disappointing 0-2 loss to Stallion Laguna FC last October 25 in Biñan Stadium and its ire fell on the visiting JPV which allowed three goals from Fernando Rodriguez (3’), eventual ‘Man of the Match’ Bienvenido Marañon (5’), and Iain Ramsay (7’) in the first seven minutes.
JVP coach Dan Padernal was stunned and surprised by the turn of events as his boys tried to push some decent plays against Ceres keeper Roland Muller.
The defensive line of Manuel Herrera Lopez, Kota Kawase, Joshua Jake Grommen and Joshua Dutosme were so successful, preventing JPV’s offensive to lead 3-nil at half.
OJ Porteria then broke away from his defenders to score a loose ball in the 49th minute inside the box off a Stephan Schrock’s attempt.
Marañon finally sealed the Busmen’s 14th win in 21 outings on an easy breakaway in the 80th minute.
Ceres FC coach Risto Vidakovic said in the post-match press conference that they need to win to recover from their poor performances against the Stallions.
“We had a win and loss against Laguna and we didn’t play well. Today, we played with a different mentality,” he said.
Marañon said that while they wanted to play good in every game, they sometimes get tired because of too many games in a row.
“Today, we were focused,” he said.
Ceres’s next schedule is on November 2 against the Davao Aguilas FC and Vidakovic said the first thing they have to do is take some rest and then resume training.
Padernal said he expected that Ceres FC will be coming out strong.
“I saw it in their eyes during the warm-up. They wanted to win and the errors we made inside the box were unacceptable,” he said.
“Now we have to fly back to Manila and prepare for FC Meralco Manila. This will be tough but, we have to give our best,” he added.
