BACOLOD’S Ceres-La Salle FC suffered its third loss in the United Football League (UFL) against Kaya FC over the weekend at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila.
Miguel Tanton lifted Kaya, 1-0 in the extra time to book its ninth win against a draw and five defeats while pulling down Ceres FC to 10 wins and a pair of draws and three losses.
Despite the loss, Ceres FC kept its second spot behind tournament leader and UFL Cup champions Global FC, still undefeated with 12 wins and two draws card.
Ceres had the best chance in the early minutes of the match when Stephan Schrock delivered a beautiful backheel pass to Kevin Ingresso in the 10th-minute who failed to make the shot.
The provincial club was down to 10-men three minutes later when central defender Valentine Kama was slapped a straight red card.
Ceres FC continued their offensive with Bienvenido Marañon getting another good chance in the 18th minute on a breakaway and a one-on-one with Kaya's keeper who saved the shot.
Former STI West Negros Mustang Jovin Bedic had his chance in the 21st minute for Kaya but his shot went over the cross bar.
Robert Lopez-Mendy successfully escaped his defenders and had a good opportunity to score in the 77th minute on one-on-one with veteran keeper Eduard Sacapaño.
The former Azkals custodian saved the ball.
Ceres will play Loyola Meralco Sparks FC on September 24, hoping to take a win for the possible spot in next year’s AFC Cup.
