RAQUEL Pempengco came to her son Charice's defense after some commented that the singer is already past his prime.
In a lengthy Facebook post, Pempengco said it is unfair to call Charice "laos" and "purdoy" after the latter brought pride to the country.
She added that reports of her son living with a fan are just speculations and there's no truth to it.
"Si Charcie eh nakatatak na ang pangalan na nagbigay karangalan sa bansang Pilipinas para sabihin na laos," Pempengco said.
The mother-of-two added: "Minsan na ring ibinigay sa atin ang kasiyahan bilang isang mahusay na mang-aawit di lamang dito kundi sa ibang bansa. Kaya bigyan naman po natin siya ng chance para pagbigyan naman kung ano ang gusto niya sa kanyang pag-awit."
She also said that it was Charice's decision to take a back seat from his musical career.
"Kung di man po siya lumalabas sa entablado, yun ay sariling choice niya."
"Respeto lamang po bilang pagrespeto ng ibang lahi sa kanya."
Pempengco also disclosed that she recently visited her daughter but they seemed to have missed each other.
She reminded Charice though that she will always be there for her.
"Sa iyo Charice, basta lagi mong tandaan na andito lang ako in case na kailangan mo ako."
Charice made headlines last week when it was reported that he broke up with girlfriend of four years, Alyssa Quijano.
The singer's representative confirmed the split and said it was a mutual decision and debunked rumors that he’s living with a fan.
"He's doing fine and he's happy," Charice's new manager Carl Cabral said.
The news of their split came after Charice hinted on social media that he’s “tired” and “over” of uncertain things.
Charice wrote: "Happy for what I've achieved, for what I've become, for making people happy. I'll just leave it like that. I'm tired now."
The singer also tweeted "I can't anymore. I'm over it." (VoxPop Philippines)
