THE City Council of Bacolod passed a resolution asking Mayor Evelio Leonardia to request the Department of Trade and Industry together with the Permits and Licensing Office to monitor and inspect electronic products, including Christmas lights being sold to the public.
The resolution, authored by Councilor Ricardo Tan, sought to insure that these products passed the quality control screening of DTI to avoid losses of lives and properties.
“Before everyone celebrates Christmas, it has been customary for us Filipinos to install electric lights and decorations to our respective homes and offices,” he said.
Tan added that some suppliers, merchandisers and retailers disregarded the law on this matter by just offering their products to the public without complying with the required inspection, testing, and control.
“Because of this, accidents happen from time to time by reason thereof, lives of innocent people and properties of individuals are lost,” he noted.
