EVERYONE was hooked on their television or computer screens as they watched the live telecast of the Miss Universe 2016 competition Monday, January 30.
Each was rooting for their own bet but to cap some things, we have listed the easily visible features of the pageant that we like and dislike. The list is provided below.
What we liked about the Miss Universe 2016:
Tribute to the mothers
The idea to put a tribute for the mothers of the contestants was very sweet. It adds an emotional aspect to the pageant without being very cheesy.
Miss Canada being proud of her body
Miss Canada Siera Bearchell was bashed for being a fiercely real woman but instead of being brought down, she confidently and gracefully walked the stage during the Miss Universe Coronation.
Miss Myanmar and her national costume
It was just about right for Miss Myanmar Htet Htet Htun to win the Best National Costume. It was not easy carrying that 40 kilograms costume, which showcased Myanmar's puppetry.
Pia and Steve Harvey's banter
We just love the light banter between the two. At the first few minutes of the show you have Pia Wurtzbach saying to Steve Harvey, “Thank you for making me the most popular Miss Universe.” Steve answered back with “Thank you for making me the most popular host for Miss Universe.”
Then during the announcement of the winner, Pia jokingly handed reading glasses to Steve to ensure he gets it right this time.
Steve Harvey's witty and funny adlibs
We just enjoy Steve's witty adlibs every now and then throughout the show.
We also loved how he interacted with the contestants; it was clear the contestants feel comfortable talking to him.
The stage
Wow! We were not expecting the stage to be this grand. We don't think it is the best Miss Universe stage but the stage for the 2016 Miss Universe exceeded our expectations. It was truly world class.
Boyz II Men performance
All the 90s and 80s kids out there sang along with the popular hits of Boys II Men, who performed prior to the announcement of the winner. We just love the nostalgic feels their performance gave.
What we did not like:
Dragging announcement of top 13
Usually the announcement of top 13 would be done in one segment, no advertisements or interview in between. However, this year they did a couple of interviews and we find it a bit dragging.
Maxine not taking the chance to speak Filipino
Miss Philippine Maxine Medina had a chance to finally highlight the Filipino language, to show to the world that we also have a unique and beautiful language and that we do not need to be ashamed to speak our native tongue.
Sadly, despite having an interpreter, she opted to answer the question in English. But we still love you Max! You did your best amid a lot of pressure. Kudos!
