Churches to visit for Visit Iglesia

Published on

EVERY Filipino knows that whenever the Holy Week comes rolling in, family and religious traditions are imperative.

Aside from the most sought-after tradition, cooking and eating Binignit, Visita Iglesia is one of the rituals that would gather families together, visit seven churches and recite the stations of the cross.

Hence, here are seven churches within 100-meter radius within Cebu City.

1. Asilo dela Milagrosa

Standing tall since the 1950s, Asilo dela Milagrosa could be considered one of the city's local heritage. The church is said to be owned by the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul.

2. Redemptorist Church

A quiet little church within Mango area, Redemptorist church is one of the go-to churches by pilgrims.

3. Cebu Archdiocesan Shrine of St. Pedro Calungsod

Located along D. Jakosalem street, San Pedro Calungsod's shrine opens its doors to everyone. A place for worship, churchgoers are expected to be in proper attire.

4. The Archdiocesan Shrine of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus

Right next to the shrine of San Pedro Calungsod, we have the Archdiocesan Shrine of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. Built primarily by Chinese Catholics residing in Cebu, the church has been in the area since the 1960s.

5. Sto. Rosario Parish

Named after its patron, Our Lady of the Holy Rosary, Sto. Rosario Parish is also one of the busiest churches within the metropolis.

6. Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral

Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral is the ecclesiastical seat of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Cebu in Cebu, Philippines. Four 453 years, the church continues to stand tall and proud despite all the circumstances it has faced.

7. Basilica Minore del Sto. Nino

Established in 1565, the Basilica Minore del Sto. Nino is the holiest church in the city. The Holy Child Jesus is the main subject for the people's veneration and adoration. People who have asked for favors through the intervention of the Holy Child Jesus have attested to his miracles.

Of course, there are several other churches within Cebu City that one can visit. However, what's important is to remember that penance and repentance shouldn't only happen for this week but within the entire year.
