THE members of the raiding team accused of conspiring to kill Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa have submitted on Monday their counter-affidavits in response to the multiple murder charges filed against them by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
Police Superintendent Marvin Marcos, the head of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Region 8 raiding team, and Police Chief Inspector Leo Laraga, the cop who allegedly shot to death Espinosa, together with members of the Region 8 CIDG and Maritime Unit appeared in the preliminary investigation at the Department of Justice (DOJ).
Marcos and 23 other members of the Region 8 CIDG are facing multiple murder charges filed by the NBI last December after it concluded that the killing of Espinosa was a rubout and not a shootout as claimed by the accused.
The son of Espinosa, Kerwin, was also present during the legal proceedings.
He submitted before the panel, led by Senior Assistant State Prosecutor Lilian Doris Alejo, a complaint-affidavit against the respondents.
The panel as well as Espinosa's lawyer, however, did not disclose who are the respondents in the charge sheet and what additional cases the CIDG cops will be facing.
The panel has directed the respondents to file another counter-affidavit in response to the charges filed by Kerwin on February 2 at 10 a.m.
Espinosa and another inmate Raul Yap were killed inside their jail cells at the Leyte Sub-provincial jail on November 5 in the hands of the CIDG raiding team who were then serving search warrants for their alleged possession of a firearm and shabu. (VoxPop Philippines)
