City Council commends Bacolod police acting director

THE Bacolod City Council approved a resolution thanking Senior Superintendent Jack Wanky for having satisfactorily served as acting director of Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO).

The resolution, authored by Councilor Ricardo Tan, chairperson of committee on peace and order, was passed during the regular session Wednesday, October 11.

Tan said Wanky has left an imprint on the BCPO by diligently tapping the services of civilian volunteer groups as multiplier forces in the maintenance of peace and order in the community and in consistently fighting against crimes.

He said Wanky had efficiently performed his duties and obligations as city police director and had in fact, mobilized the entire police force in mapping out plans and executing the same, in conformity with the priorities set forth by the City Peace and Order Council (CPOC) and the local authorities.

“The relief of Wanky in the middle of Masskara Festival celebration is a prerogative of the Philippine National Police hierarchy, but does not necessarily discredit the accomplishments already made by him prior thereto,” Tan added.

Tan said that Wanky deserves the recognition the City Council can give.

Wanky was relieved from his post Tuesday and was succeeded by Superintendent Rhoderick Minong, commander of the Regional Public Safety Battalion-Western Visayas.

He was relieved following the series of robbery hold-up incidents in the city which depicted Bacolod in social media as no longer safe.

Councilor Em Ang said Wednesday the change in the top leadership of the BCPO is a welcome change.

“I definitely support the assignment of Superintendent Minong as BCPO director precisely because we need his experience and expertise being the commander of the Regional Public Safety Battalion to ensure that the MassKara Festival will be the safest and most orderly festival in country,” she said.

Minong brought with him an additional 400 policemen to augment the security forces for the 22-day festival. (MAP/CNC)
