DAVAO City Second District Representative Mylene Garcia-Albano countered the statement made by Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang during the 11th Davao City Council Session that the Davao City Water District (DCWD) has no sole authority over the water drawn in Davao City.
"I know it's only the Water District that provides the water now. The DCWD entered an arrangement with the water provider to provide water to the Second District especially. The problem is the water they are drawing from has been depleting," Garcia said during the Davao Light and Power Corporation's turn over ceremony at the F. Bangoy National High School Wednesday, March 22.
Albano noted the insufficient supply of water in some subdivisions in Cabantian, saying it is not a product of negligence.
"Madali lang naman magbitaw ng salita (It's easy to say something), but the question is sino ba talaga ang may ginagawa (who is really doing something) to solve the problem?" she said.
Albano said there is no immediate solution to the current water situation in Cabantian area and the water table in Davao City is really depleting.
"With current situation, DCWD has come up with a temporary solution to the residents in the affected area. In the meantime, there are two tankers who visit Cabantian eight times a day to provide the much needed water," she said.
Garcia also said the agency promised to provide water tanks in Cabantian last March 15, 2016.
However, the tanks were not deployed due to the difficulty in the procurement of the 10 water tanks.
"Makaintindi naman ang mga residents pero yung sa kanila lang sana kung anong sinabi ng DCWD na schedule, sundin nila (The residents can understand but on their part, the DCWD should follow the schedule). We followed up and kanina lang they told us that nag-start na ang pag-supply ng tubig from water tankers kahapon (the supplying of water to water tanks started yesterday). We hope that in cooperation of the city under Mayor Inday Sara (Duterte-Carpio), we can solve the problem," she said.
Garcia said the water situation in the Cabantian area will be solved within 2018 to 2019.
